Shanti Seidel Molina began her musical career in Colima, Mexico playing the violin with the Orquesta Infantil del Estado de Colima. At age 8 she started studying piano at the Instituto Universitario de Bellas Artes where later she would find her love for the cello. As a cellist she performed with the Orquesta Sinfónica Infantil de México from 2001 to 2006 on several music tours, traveling around Mexico, the United States, and Spain.Â
In 2007 she was awarded a scholarship to earn her bachelor’s degree in Music Education at Washington Adventist University (WAU), in Takoma Park, Maryland. At WAU she performed as first cello chair and as a soloist, and toured with the orchestra in South Africa, Italy, Turkey, Iceland, Germany, Greece, and Thailand among others. While attending WAU Shanti performed regularly at Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall in New York, under the baton of well known musicians, such as the renowned British composer John Rutter.
After completing her degree at WAU, she performed and taught in the DC Metro Area and later returned to the university to obtain a second bachelor’s degree, this time in Music Performance under the tutelage of Laurien Laufman.Â
Shanti continued on to study a Master’s degree in Music Performance at Central Michigan University with Dr. James Fiste where she was granted a teaching assistantship and performed with the Graduate String Quartet and as first chair in the university’s Symphony Orchestra.Â
After completing her studies and multiple tours abroad, Shanti returned to her hometown in Colima, Mexico to share her passion and expertise in music with the town that helped her career take off. While in Colima Shanti performed original works for various cultural events, and started a string ensemble at a local school.Â
Shanti and her family split their time between the US and Mexico, where enjoys teaching, performing, composing and repairing instruments.
